The Drawing from Life Experience

For two hours, step away from the screens, the photographs, the reference images—and the pace of everything else.

Sit in front of a professional clothed model.

Notice the posture. The gesture. The shadows. The way the body occupies the space in front of you.

Then put pencil to paper and draw what you actually see.

Drawing From Life is a guided live-model drawing experience from October Sun Art Studio for practicing artists, returning artists, and anyone who has ever wondered what it feels like to draw the human figure from life.

You don’t have to be accomplished.

You don’t even have to be confident.

You just have to be willing to look.

There’s Something Different About Drawing a Living, Breathing Person.

A photograph waits for you.

A live model makes you pay attention.

You begin to notice things differently.

The tilt of a shoulder. The relationship between one shape and another. The weight of the body. The line created by a pose. The proportions your mind thought it understood until your eyes began looking more closely.

You draw.

You erase.

You adjust.

You look again.

And somewhere in the process, the rest of the room starts to disappear.

That is the experience.

Drawing from life asks you to be fully present in a way that working from a photograph simply doesn’t. Jeanne described it as learning not only how to draw, but how to look, how to see, and how to translate what you see onto the paper.

Warm up, draw the model, ask questions, experiment, get stuck, figure something out—and leave having spent two hours doing something that feeds the artist in you.

A Few Things to Know

Please arrive 10–15 minutes early so your group can get settled before we begin.
Feel free to bring your favorite beverage or light snacks to enjoy during your experience.
All supplies are included—just bring yourself and your creativity.
Sessions begin promptly at the scheduled time.
